Biggin
Hill Airport
1960's & 1970's Reunion
|
|
12th September 1998
The 98 Bump Reunion is now thought to be the largest event, other than an
Air Display, ever seen at Biggin Hill Airfield
Organised and hosted by
John Willis and Joe Merchant (ably assisted by Bill Robinson), the event
was a spectacular and sometimes emotional gathering of several hundred
old faces from Biggin Hill in the 1960's and 1970's.
During the course of the
day, it is estimated that some 600 people attended the event, which took
the form of an informal reunion during the afternoon, followed by an impressive
party in the illuminated 120 foot marquee, with dancing to the
music of the String of Pearls 16 piece Swing band.
The event was partially
sponsored by Adams Aviation (who celebrated their 30th anniversary at Biggin
Hill this year) and Gordon Franks (who retires this year). In addition
to the sponsored part (the cost of the band), the organisers were pleased
to find that, although worried at one point in the evening, all costs were
covered, and indeed a reasonably substantial donation to charities was made.
The costs, incurred for the hiring of the huge marquee, the furniture,
and tracing and contacting all invited guests, exceeded three and a half
thousand pounds. Thank you to everyone who helped to fund this event
(Additionally, the organisers would like to
thank Tom Hood for the provision of the stage and marquee lighting)
